Students taking part in a Grad Student Welcome

August 9, 2017

Be a part of Grad Student Welcome

We are looking for current grad student volunteers to welcome incoming students at this year’s Graduate Student Welcome events in September. You’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences, meet new friends and help build our graduate community here at McMaster.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the following events:

New Student Welcome Breakfast on campus

This year, we have breakfasts running on two different mornings: Tuesday, Sept 5, and Thursday, Sept 7. We need volunteers to act as Greeters and help facilitate activities.

Volunteers must commit to:

  1. attend one prep meeting. The time and location is to be determined.
  2. greet new grad students and help them with an activity.

International Grad Student Resource Fair

This fair happens at the end of day/early evening on September 13. Volunteers are needed to create info booths and present at the fair.

Volunteers must commit to

  1. attend one prep meeting on August 28

  2. work with a small group of volunteers to prepare or update an information board that you present at the event. Boards from last year are available. It’s a great chance to meet new friends and help new students learn more about McMaster and the broader Hamilton community.

Graduate student volunteers can sign up online. If you have questions, suggestions or would like more information, email Graduate Student Life

Another volunteer opportunity for international grad students

The iGSA is recruiting members to join its committee. It’s an opportunity to meet other enthusiastic grad students and build your resume. In particular, international grad students are needed from Social Sciences, Humanities and Business. The iGSA meets monthly and organizes events and activities for McMaster’s international grad student community, in connection with the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and School of Graduate Studies.

Lend your voice, talents, and expertise to help support and improve the international grad student experience.

For more details, email the iGSA or visit them on Facebook.
