New community engagement course open to graduate students

The McMaster Children & Youth University’s popular volunteer program MCYU in the City has become two accredited community engagement courses (offered in the fall and winter).

Graduate students are welcome to audit the class offered in the fall, CMTYENGA 2MC3: Design and Creation of Engaged Learning for Community Youth, happening on Mondays from 7 to 10 p.m.

Students will receive training in community engagement, inquiry-based learning and how to engage with youth. Interdisciplinary teams of students will develop one-hour workshops geared towards youth, ages 7-14, to be offered in schools and libraries. Also, some students will develop content for a new e-book – an online interactive learning platform for youth.

Students will enhance their skills in project management, knowledge communication, community outreach, and developing creative presentations.

Time commitment: 3 hours per week

How to sign up: Contact MCYU’s director, Sandeep Raha, at rahas@mcmaster.ca or 905-521-2100 ext.76213
