SPICES adds flavour to campus life

Building a brighter world. That’s what it’s all about when you’re a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow at McMaster. You spend your days immersed in research – reading, analyzing, writing – with the goal of making a difference.

But at those in-between moments beyond the labs, libraries and lecture halls … well, that’s when life happens. And that’s where Spices comes in!

Spices is a funding program that supports cool new initiatives driven by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. These projects help to build graduate and postdoctoral community, as well as address a need and create opportunities on campus or beyond.

Spices isn’t about academic research. But it is about making a difference.

Current and past initiatives focus on a variety of areas including

  • personal and professional development
  • community outreach
  • wellness
  • creativity – art, storytelling, and videography
  • sustainability
  • networking and connectivity
What is a Spices project?
  • Something that does not already exist – it’s an original idea that fills a need.
  • An initiative that includes team members who identify as part of the community the project aims to engage.
  • A project driven by grad students or postdocs who are passionate about their ideas and want to make a difference.
  • Something inspired by clear vision and leadership.

The deadline for Spices proposals: April 8, 9 a.m.
