McMaster welcomes three new Banting Postdoctoral Fellows
Three McMaster postdoctoral researchers have received the 2023 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Steve Hranilovic, McMaster’s Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, expressed his excitement in welcoming such talented individuals to an already rich and diverse community of postdoctoral researchers.
“The Banting Fellowship is one of Canada’s most prestigious postdoctoral awards. Our McMaster community is enriched by the addition of these world-class postdoctoral fellows and I am thrilled they are receiving such distinguished recognition for their work,” Hranilovic says.
The university’s newest Banting recipients will be conducting research in the faculties of Health Sciences and Social Sciences.
The 2023 Banting Postdoctoral Researchers
Hiliary Monteith will join the department of Anthropology, conducting research under the supervision of Dawn Martin-Hill. Monteith’s work examines impacts of water security and changes to traditional food systems, on the health and well-being of the Six Nations of the Grand River community. Learn more about Monteith.
Mackenzie Martin will be working in Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, under the supervision of associate professor Andrea Gonzalez. Her research focuses on equitable access and benefits of parenting programs in Canada. Learn more about Martin.
Anthony Shuko Musiwa will join Health Research, Evidence and Impact under the supervision of associate professor Lawrence Mbuagbaw. His research will provide new evidence to inform policies that strengthen how fathers help mothers to get prenatal care in ways that fit their cultures in rural Zimbabwe. Learn more about Musiwa.

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship is worth $70,000 annually for two years.
