Emotions can influence the way we act and react. Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize our behaviours, moods, and impulses, and manage them so that we can communicate effectively, empathize with others, manage stress, overcome challenging situations, and defuse conflict. Emotional intelligence helps you build stronger relationships, succeed at work, and achieve your career and personal goals.
Emotional intelligence is also a skill. And like any other skill, you can get better at it with training and practice. In this introductory workshop, we will review the five core competencies of emotional intelligence to provide you an overview of EI and strategies to improve your own emotional intelligence.
If you have any questions prior to attending the workshop, please email Christine Costa, organizational development and design consultant, at costac5@mcmaster.ca.
Open to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
